How to register for TCS NQT 2026:Step-by-Step Guide

The TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT) 2026 is now live, and for freshers from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 batches, this is the biggest gateway to landing a role at Tata Consultancy Services. With salaries for Prime and Digital roles reaching up to ₹12.26 LPA, the stakes are high.

However, every year thousands of students miss out because of small registration errors—specifically the infamous "Apply for Drive" button. This guide will ensure you aren't one of them.

Phase 1: Registration on TCS NextStep Portal

Before you can take the test, you need a CT/DT Reference ID.

  1. Visit the Portal: Go to the TCS NextStep Portal.

  2. Choose Your Category: This is crucial. Select "IT" (Information Technology).

    • Note: Even if you are from a non-CS background, for the NQT hiring drive, the "IT" category is the standard for Ninja/Digital/Prime roles.

  3. Basic Details & Aadhaar: Enter your name and DOB exactly as they appear on your Aadhaar card. You will need to provide the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar for the 2026 verification process.

  4. OTP Verification: Verify your email ID using the OTP sent to your inbox.

  5. Generate Reference ID: Once submitted, you will receive a unique Reference ID starting with CT2026... or DT2026.... Save this immediately!

Phase 2: Filling the Application Form

Generating a Reference ID is only 50% of the work. You must now complete the full application.

  • Personal & Academic Details: Fill in your 10th, 12th/Diploma, and Graduation scores. Ensure your aggregate is above 60% (or 6.0 CGPA) with no active backlogs.

  • Upload Documents: You’ll need a formal passport-size photo (35mm x 35mm, white background) and an updated CV (max 500KB).

  • Review: Use the "Application Form Preview" to double-check everything. Once you hit submit, editing certain fields becomes very difficult.

Phase 3: The Most Important Step – "Apply For Drive"

Many students stop after submitting the form and never get an admit card. Do not make this mistake.

  1. After submitting your application, click on the "Apply For Drive" button on the side menu.

  2. Select Test Mode: Choose "In-Centre". You will then select your preferred test cities.

  3. Confirm Status: Go to the "Track Your Application" tab. Your status MUST show "Applied for Drive". If it only says "Application Received," you are not yet registered for the exam.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • "Apply for Drive" not showing? Log out and log back in. If it still doesn't appear, check if you accidentally registered under "BPS" instead of "IT".

  • Account Locked? If you fail OTP attempts, your account locks for 4 hours. Wait it out; do not try to create a second account as duplicate profiles lead to disqualification.

  • Portal Crashing? Use the latest version of Google Chrome in Incognito mode or clear your cache/cookies.
